BRIEF
Co-owner of Nodus, Wesley Kwok, approached me directly, requesting a logo for their new microbrand watch startup. As our professional relationship progressed, I was offered the opportunity to assist in designing casebacks for their watches, in addition to the eventual web‑related responsibilities.
02 BRAND
DEVELOPING THE BRAND
When first tasked with the creation of Nodus's logo, I was given the well-recognized infinity symbol (∞) as inspiration. Aside from that, a "somewhat vintage" or "refined and classy look" would do the trick. Following this discussion, I did some research into other famous watch brands to observe their brands and set off to work.
LOGO
Most famous watch logos are either purely type-based or paired with a logo mark. In order to create one that could be easily identified & associated with watches, the decision was made to constrain any ideas to the aforementioned.
After drafting a few different cencepts, the current logo representing the brand was conceived; a marriage in the meaning behind the company's name, Nodus, with a sense of nobility.
Despite the logo mark being really quite simple (two chevrons), it alludes to the following: an abstracted visual combination of a castle & crown; a crossing of paths from different directions; and ultimately, when only form is observed, an intersection.

TRIESTE CASEBACK
Below is the first caseback I designed for the Nodus Trieste. Although relatively simplistic & "safe," it functions to capture the essence of the meaning behind Nodus.

AVALON CASEBACK
Themed after the island of Avalon from Arthurian legend, the caseback for the Nodus Avalon was designed to depict Excalibur, the sword of King Arthur. This same design was eventually also reused in the caseback of the Nodus Avalon II.
